Weir Minerals Netherlands is proud to announce that 2016 marks its 100 year anniversary. For a century, the company has been committed to delivering innovation and engineering excellence to its customers.

With a worldwide reputation for developing and manufacturing GEHO® slurry pumps, Warman® axial flow pumps and Enduron® high pressure grinding rolls, Weir Minerals Netherlands maintains its leading position through innovation.

Commenting on this momentous milestone for the company, Jan Peter van Leeuwen, Managing Director for Weir Minerals Netherlands said:

“For the past century, Weir Minerals Netherlands has been committed to developing and producing innovative solutions for transporting and handling ores, minerals and tailings. This dedication has helped us to design and develop some of the world’s most advanced pumps, built to handle the most abrasive and corrosive slurries and tailings.”

A brief history of Weir Minerals Netherlands

Back in 1916, a forward thinking family, the Holthuis’, purchased a foundry and machining factory and established a company which has been developing innovative products ever since.

In 1929, it became clear that pumps were the future when the company began manufacturing pumps and sold the first pump.

During the 1950s, the owners’ sons took over management of the company and worked together to develop a piston pump, which was branded GEHO™. The pump was a huge success and a key driver to the growth of the company, setting the standard for pumping systems.

The company became part of the Weir Group in 1994. This acquisition accelerated the growth of the company’s manufacturing capability through Weir Group’s excellence in engineering solutions.

In 2003, Weir Group signed an agreement with KHD to design, manufacture and distribute High Pressure Grinding Rolls (HPGR) for minerals processing applications and Weir Minerals Netherlands became the global Design Centre of Origin (DCO) for Enduron® HPGR.

This innovative grinding technology is backed by continuous research and in-house pilot scale test facilities in Europe, Australia, North America and Latin America.

A Global Focus

Weir Minerals Netherlands develops solutions for the most extreme applications and produces the largest piston diaphragm pumps in the world!

To date, the company has sold more than 1,600 GEHO® slurry pumps to more than 65 countries worldwide. These pumps have operated in the most demanding applications for more than 500 different projects. At a project in Madagascar, 10 GEHO® pumps transport nickel slurry at temperatures of more than 200°C whilst in Siberia, Russia, 19 GEHO® pumps operate under extreme conditions for an ore pipeline. Merely a few of the many demanding environments which GEHO® pumps work under.

Today, after more than 100 years’ experience, Weir Minerals Netherlands runs on a strong customer-oriented approach and the team is focused on long-term relationships with its customers.

Weir Minerals Netherlands may be turning 100, but its products are more innovative than ever; recently investing in technology through the acquisition of a pipeloop facility in Melbourne, Australia. This research facility forms part of the specialist tailings treatment unit of Weir Minerals Netherlands to expand their tailings and pipeline solutions.

Stuart Hayton, Sales and Marketing Director for Weir Minerals Netherlands comments on the company’s tailings solutions:

“The use of tailings solutions helps our minerals customers reduce risk, increase storage capacity on a reduced footprint and reduce power and water consumption. The Weir Minerals portfolio covers all aspects of our stable tailings solutions and offers equipment, services and turnkey projects as required. We’re passionate about providing cost effective and sustainable solutions to our customers.”

The company has always been dedicated to providing continuous innovative solutions for its customers. For more than 50 years, Weir Minerals Netherlands has designed and developed some of the world’s most advanced hydraulic piston pumps under its cornerstone brand GEHO®.

The innovative pump technology behind GEHO® is backed by continuous advanced research and in-house laboratory test facilities, resulting in superior efficiency, reliability and availability.

Jan Peter van Leeuwen concludes:
