Engineering firm Weir Canada Inc. will build a 114,000-square-foot service and manufacturing facility on 5.8 acres in Surrey’s Campbell Heights North, a 250-acre business park developed by Surrey City Development Corp (SCDC).
Beedie Development Corp. (BDG) is building the custom facility for R. Wales Canada, a Weir subsidiary. This is the first time BDG, Western Canada’s largest private industrial landlord, is building on industrial land owned by SCDC, noted Todd Yuen, president of BDG’s industrial division.
Campbell Heights is the largest industrial park in Surrey, which is experiencing a shortage of large footprint industrial space.
Aside from Campbell Heights, Surrey has no lease or sale options for those requiring more than 100,000 square feet of space, according to Colliers International. The current Surrey industrial vacancy rate is 3.1%, which is considered fairly tight.
The Weir Group plc, the parent of Weir Canada Inc., is an engineering company headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland focused on mining, oil and gas and power markets. The company employs about 14,000 people.
