Trolex Appoints New Polish Distributor

Trolex, leaders in gas detection and environmental monitoring systems, has chosen Elektrometal SA to become its distribution partner in Poland. Elektrometal SA has 60 years’ experience working in the Polish and Czech mining sector and is based in Cieszyn, Silesia, one of the oldest coal mining towns.

As part of this new partnership, Neil McDonald, International Sales Director, is delighted to welcome three members of staff from Elektrometal SA Poland, to Trolex’s head office in Manchester for product training. Maciej Koczwara, Andzej Szatanik and Marek Sikora are spending a week at Trolex, with a range of different Trolex sales & technical specialists. They are learning about all aspects of mine air/gas ventilation monitoring, cutting machine monitoring and mine automation systems. Neil commented, “Trolex has been without effective distribution in Poland for too long and we are very excited about partnering with Elektrometal. With our modern ATEX-certified products and Elektrometal’s sales & service coverage, we are convinced that we have a genuinely useful and competitive offering which gives mines in Poland a real alternative to their usual suppliers.”

There are 41 coalmines in Silesia, most forming part of the Gornoslaskie Zaglebie Weglowe coalfield which lies in the Silesian Upland. The field has an area of about 4,500 km2 but reserves in Lower Silesia have proved difficult to exploit and the area’s unprofitable mines were closed in 2000. In 2008, an estimated 35 billion tonnes of lignite reserves were found near Legnica, making them some of the largest in the world.
