SpotCast expands to SpotCast Extreme with new content and ‘elevated’ forecasting!

January 2, 2017 – With the dawn of a new year, OCENS is pleased to announce the expansion of its SpotCast direct-to-satellite weather forecasting service with additional weather and environmental content. The new SpotCast, which is rebranded as SpotCast Extreme, adds wind chill and heat index forecasts, insights into the type of precipitation expected and if it is to be snow, a range of expected snowfall amounts. Sunrise/sunset and moon phase times are also now included on a daily basis. These products join the already globally available wind speed and direction, surface pressure, air temperature, cloud cover and precipitation metrics in 24, 48 and 72 hour forecasts.

In addition, and of particular interest to the hiking, climbing and skiing sectors, all forecasts in SpotCast Extreme will come adjusted for the elevation of the forecast location. Lat/Lon positions submitted with each SpotCast request are interlaced with OCENS global elevation database and 24, 48 and 72 hour forecasts generated for that elevation at that location. ‘We are very excited about the improvements to forecast accuracy this offers our ‘elevated’ outdoor enthusiast.’ stated Matt Haase, OCENS Direct of Land Mobile. ‘Great success has been reported by our pre-release users taking part in expeditions to Everest and K2 in the Himalayas, in the US Rockies and to South Pole expeditions on Antarctica.’

No changes are required on the end-user side and no price increase is associated with the additional content and services available in SpotCast Extreme.

OCENS SpotCast Extreme remains the one and only pathway to the reliable delivery of global weather forecasts directly to the face of almost any satellite phone!
