SM-3500 Full Range Spectrometer Is Purpose-Built for Mining

Lawrence, MA – March 4, 2013 – Fast, full featured, and flexible, the SM-3500 from SPECTRAL EVOLUTION is designed to enhance the collection and analysis of critical in-the-field data for each step in the mining process from early exploration/mineral identification to analysis for extraction and production.
The SM-3500 is rugged, lightweight, and portable – ideal for field use. You’ll appreciate one cable and one-touch operation with our mineral contact probe in applications like:
- Analyzing outcrops
- Mapping pit benches
- Core logging
- Performing vector mineralization
- Looking at hand samples, RC chips, or blast holes
- Analyzing powders
- Collecting a soil grid
With the SM-3500’s full spectral range (UV/VIS/NIR) from 350-2500nm, you’ll be able to collect scans from outcrops early in the exploration process and identify the following:
- Al(OH) group minerals
- Sulphates
- Si(OH) group minerals
- Fe(OH) group minerals
- Mg(OH) group minerals
- Carbonate group minerals
- Silicates
- Zeolites
- Rare earths
- Massive sulphides
The SM-3500 allows you to work with deposit types from epithermals to porphyries, kimberlites, carbonate hosted base metals, shear veins, skarns, and disseminated gold systems. The SM-3500 delivers the following capabilities:
- Full range UV/VIS/NIR in one scan
- Very fast scanning – autoshutter, autoexposure, auto-dark correction
- Small, lightweight, less than 8 lbs., and reliable with no moving parts
- DARWin SP Data Acquisition software that produces ASCII compatible files without post-processing for use with 3rd party software including SpecMIN, TSG, IOGAS, and GRAMS
- USGS mineral reference library included with DARWin
- Works with laptop or Getac PS-236 Personal Digital Assistant (PDA)
- Getac PS-236 is ideal for single user operation – tag scans with digital images, GPS, and audio notes – features sunlight readable screen
- Mineral contact probe and benchtop mineral reflectance probe available
- Wide range of field accessories, including fold-up cart for core shack use
