SGS appoints Alan Gomez as advanced systems global technical manager

SGS is pleased to announce Alan Gomez as the new Global Technical Manager for our Advanced Systems group. Alan has recently transferred to our Toronto office from Santiago, Chile, where he held the position of Regional Manager of our South American Advanced Systems group.

Educated as a chemical engineer at Universidad de Chile, Alan has extensive and varied metallurgical experience as a process engineer and operator in international hydrometallurgical, concentrator, mineral processing and acid plants. Alan’s broad range of modeling, design, operating and engineering experience provides a complete perspective to advanced control projects. In his former role as Regional Manager, Alan worked extensively with the planning, implementation and technical audits of systems that control the critical variables required to optimize processing performance.

Alan’s Advanced Systems management work with SGS is multifaceted and global in nature. He has experience with copper, gold and lead-zinc concentrators, as well as primary-secondary crushing plants world-wide. Alan has been working for 5 years for SGS in the management and implementation of advanced systems projects. Previously, Alan worked for 8 years as a technical professional acquiring knowledge in the fields of metallurgy, hydrometallurgy, acid plant effluent treatment and modeling/design management as well as operation supervisor of mining plants.

Alan is the author of numerous publications in the fields of process optimization, expert system implementation, design of expert systems for grinding circuits and the incorporation of secondary variables in determining froth velocity for inclusion in expert systems.
