Seton Launches Mining Website To Address Growing Need In Canadian Industry

Seton, a worldwide leader in safety and identification products, expands to mining industry in Canada with focused niche website on mine safety signs, labels, tags and more.

Richmond Hill, ON – According to the Association of Workers’ Compensation Boards of Canada, 75 Canadian miners died in 2011 alone, and just over 2,800 workers were injured on the job. Seton saw these numbers and decided to launch an online mining store to address the growing need in Canada for safety products in this industry.

“Mining is the most dangerous profession in the world, for the young, old, and everything in the middle,” said Beth Mazza, Product Manager for Seton. “Some of them are people who have been on the job for 30 years, or 14 days, accidents happen. It’s all about education of mining site safety and making it a safer environment for them.”

Seton interviewed mining professionals in the industry and learned that regardless of geographical location, most workers said safety was the #1 priority on their worksite. Workers also said there was a lack of mining safety products available to them to address this need.

“We saw a lack of companies focusing on mine safety, specifically, and when we spoke with customers in the industry, they were doing a lot of make-shift solutions to try to stay compatible with regulations,” said Corrie Lombari, Business Development Project Manager at Seton. “We noticed companies were striving to be safer than what regulations required, so we wanted to make it easier, faster, and simpler to get them the right product to meet the right need so they could address those challenges in the mining industry.”

“Mining is a highly regulated industry,” Mazza explained, “and what we did was bring in experts to consult with us. We talked about their concerns from a compliance perspective and we filled in that gap.”

Over 100 new products and wordings were added to the mining website and a catalogue geared specifically towards enhancing mine safety across Canada.

“One thing we were able to do was feature the full mining catalogue online, so customers could still get the catalogue experience online, which is great for the green consumer,” Lombari explained.

The mining website was created using the voice of the customer and, as a result, features a new design which allows for an easier online shopping experience. The result is a one-stop-shop that offers products that keep both surface and underground mining sites safe, maintains secure lock-out tag-out procedures, provides personal protective equipment and maintains organization using labels and markers. Seton Canada also offers dozens of products that can easily be customized.

“We are putting safety first and making sure Canadian miners are safe,” Mazza said.
