AN INNOVATIVE new water based degreaser, Eliminator, has been launched by leading Australian fine particle management company Reynolds Soil Technologies (RST), as an environmentally safe and effective water based solution to replace potentially hazardous chemical solvent based degreasers.

While solvent based degreasers such as diesel, kerosene, mineral turpentine and mineral spirits work effectively as degreasers, they carry the risk of potential hazards including fire, explosion and dangerous fumes.

The storage of such flammable substance as solvent based degreasers is controlled by strict Australia-wide laws including the “Storage and Handling of Flammable and Combustible Liquids” standard, placing controls and restrictions on businesses using and handling solvent based degreasers.

Reynolds Soil Technologies (RST) saw the need for an effective, hassle-free, water-based degreaser that delivered the same results as solvent-based degreasers and developed a new product, Eliminator, to meet emerging market demand.

Eliminator is an optimal blend of high performance surfactants, complexing agents and pH modifiers including anti-corrosion chemistry.

Eliminator is a multipurpose, industrial strength, solvent replacement degreaser with a wide range of applications, including:

  • Engine and machinery degreasing
  • Marine degreasing
  • Cleaning petroleum based soiling
  • Degreasing garage and workshop floors

Eliminator uses cutting edge water-based technology that is effective on all grease, oil and fats, while being ultra-fast acting, user friendly, environmentally safe and fully biodegradable.

To use Eliminator, follow the recommended dosage rates for your application and apply the diluted Eliminator solution to the application area, allow to work for a few minutes and then remove.

RST strives, through a process of continuous improvement, to fully integrate health, safety, environmental and community (HSEC) consciousness into all aspects of its activities.

Gold Coast European car service and maintenance business Eurotune has converted to RST’s water-based degreaser, Eliminator, from their old solvent-based degreasers and haven’t looked back.

“We spent months testing more than 20 commercial water based degreasers currently on the market, trying to find a water-based degreaser that works as well as the old solvent based degreasers,” Eurotune Managing Director Glenn Anable.

“We are specialists in servicing European cars, which tend to use a lot of alloy in the engine manufacture, and we found that other water-based degreasers tended to turn alloy white and not clean it very well,” Mr Anable said.

“We have found Eliminator works as well as solvent-based degreasers in every way and doesn’t turn the alloy white,” he said.

“Eliminator also eliminates the stress of complying with strict regulations surrounding solvent based degreasers and gives us peace of mind knowing it is environmentally friendly and safe to store and use – we love this product.”

RST operations and technical director David Handel said that as solvent-based degreasers are getting phased out through environmental and health legislation, a broad variety of industries are looking for effective water based degreasers.

“The problem is that traditional water-based degreasers generally aren’t as effective as solvent-based degreasers,” Mr Handel said.

“RST specialises in fine particle management through clever chemistry globally to large mining and earthworks projects, mainly in the areas of dust control and soil stabilisation,” he said.

“Knowing that caked on oil is full of fine particles, RST started a research and development program more than three years ago to invent a safe and effective water-based degreaser to meet growing demand.

“One of the crucial elements is that the product must not affect quality alloy components, so we undertook rigorous testing to ensure that Eliminator is safe to use on alloy.

“The feedback from car mechanics like Eurotune, who deal with top end cars, is that it’s the best water-based degreaser on the market.”

RST has more than 26 years of experience specialising in total dust management, soil stabilisation and erosion, water and agriculture solutions for mine sites, haul roads, ports and land sites in Australia and overseas.

The company’s head office is based at Burleigh Heads, Queensland with an additional office in Carlisle, Western Australia.

RST’s international operations extend to regions including South and North America, Africa, Asia and Oceania.
