Two orders from Petra Diamonds, the leading independent diamond miner, for its Finsch and Koffiefontein Diamond Mines in South Africa highlight the durability of Tenova TAKRAF Africa’s dust control technology, as well as the ability of the company to fully support its installations over the long term.
The orders, placed in July 2015 and due for completion early 2016, comprise the replacement of the Tenova Dynamic Scrubber at Koffiefontein and the installation of a new, upgraded system at Finsch. Both dynamic scrubber systems had been installed many decades ago by the then Bateman Engineered Technologies (before it became Tenova TAKRAF Africa on the acquisition of the Bateman group by Tenova in 2012), with the system at Koffiefontein dating back to the late 1970s.
Both systems, with capacities of 15 – 20 m3/s, are installed at the transfer points of the kimberlite materials handling system at the respective mines. Tenova TAKRAF Africa’s scope for Koffiefontein covers supply and for Finsch, right from design and manufacture through to delivery and installation.
Tenova TAKRAF Africa has an extensive reference list of more than 3,000 dust control systems installed in Southern Africa over the past 50 plus years. Tenova Dynamic Scrubbers are simple to operate and enable low dust emissions to be achieved with relatively low capital and operational costs. The scrubbers are used for general dust collection of medium to heavy dust loads with an efficiency of 99 % for particles in the 1 to 2 micron range. The smallest dynamic scrubber can handle 0.2 m3/s, while twin arrangements of the largest scrubber handle up to 65 m3/s.
“These orders once again highlight the assurance Tenova TAKRAF Africa provides its client base of its ability to support its products over the complete product lifecycle,” says Jimmy Tomlin, Manager, Air Environmental Control, Tenova TAKRAF Africa. “We are proud to have been able to meet the needs of clients such as Finsch and Koffiefontein Diamond Mines repeatedly over so many years.”
Tenova TAKRAF Africa and Tenova Delkor Sub-Saharan Africa have moved to new offices in Spartan, Gauteng (as at the end of January 2016). Located at 96 Loper Street, Aeroport, Spartan, Kempton Park, the building provides a dedicated office space, as well as sufficient space for the spares stores and test work laboratory, thus integrating the entire team under one roof. Telephone and email contact details remain the same.
The stores facility holds spares for all Tenova TAKKRAF Africa equipment and capital projects. It is equipped with a computerised inventory system, remote camera monitoring of all stores and a 10 t overhead crane with a 29 m span to facilitate efficient turn-around of spares requirements.
Fully equipped with sample preparation and mineral processing equipment, the laboratory provides a convenient facility for the sizing of Bradford Breakers and other comminution test work, saving on the expense of on site test work and reducing turnaround time. Through a partnership with Greentechnical, the laboratory also provides material flow laboratory test work to determine the flow of solid material through chutes, and into storage vessels – information required to accurately determine equipment design parameters.
Tenova Delkor’s solid/liquid separation test work includes sedimentation, filtration and clarification test work for equipment sizing such as Thickeners, Horizontal Belt Filters, Filter Presses, Pinned Bed Clarifiers and Flotation Cells. The Tenova Delkor laboratory also has testing facilities to determine the rheological behaviour of various slurry materials and is equipped for static and dynamic sedimentation testing, with capabilities to perform on-site test work globally.
