Mexico’s proposed higher mining royalties could block nearly $7bn in investments
The Mexican government proposed raising mining royalties under the argument that metal prices have risen in recent years.
According to data from the Peruvian Ministry Mining, gold production in June 2012 dropped 5.86% year on year to 13,094,424 fine grams of gold for the month.
The decrease was attributed to decreases in production at Minas Buenaventura, Minera La Zanja and Minera Barrick Misquichilca.
Gold production from January to June totaled 85,168,466 fine grams, up 6.45% year on year.
