Zimbabwe central banker stockpiles gold to bolster ZiG currency
The ZiG - short for Zimbabwe gold — is the nation’s sixth attempt at having a functioning local currency in the last 15 years.
National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) spokesman Lesiba Seshoka said today that the 12,000 dismissed striking Anglo Platinum (Amplats) workers have still not accepted the company’s reinstatement offer and are continuing to strike.
Seshoka noted that negotiations are ongoing and union officials are working to have one of the amounts offered from Amplats increased. Amplats was not immediately available for comment.
