Toronto, Canada – NLT, the leading supplier of miners’ cap lamps and underground WiFi based communications and tracking systems, announced today Class 1, Division 1 approvals on their Polaris cordless cap lamp. The Certificate of Approval was issued by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) on February 11, 2013.
NLT brings over 29 years of game-changing and trailblazing technology to the cap lamp world – the first dry cell battery pack with smart-charging technology; the first to incorporate NiMH technology; the first two-way text messaging in a cap lamp; the first all-in-one cap lamp to house a variety of brands of tracking tags, and now, in addition to MSHA approvals, we now have a CSA approved all-in-one – the Polaris for Oil and Gas.
“We are very excited to have received this approval,” said Heidi Levitt, President of Northern Light Technologies. “The Class 1 Div 1 Polaris looks like it will have an exciting spot in high hazard environments beyond underground mining.
An area is defined as Class 1, Division 1 where ignitable concentrations of flammable gases, vapors or liquids are present continuously or frequently within the atmosphere under normal operation conditions. Class 1 locations can include:
“This approval validates the safety of NLT’s products and gives our customers confidence when working in dark areas, especially in a hazardous environment,” concluded Levitt.
