The strike coordination committee in Rustenberg, South Africa today said that Anglo Platinum workers will continue with their strike movement.
“The strike is on. Workers have crushed the proposal to return to work,” committee spokesman Gaddafhi Mdoda said.
Anglo said over the weekend that it reached an agreement with unions and workers’ representatives to reinstate the 12,000 workers it had dismissed, and that they were anticipated to return to their posts by tomorrow, October 30.
Mdoda said that workers only learned of this through the media, which made it more difficult for their representatives to explain the deal to them. Mdoda noted that the workers rejected Anglo’s proposed agreement.
Mdoda added that violence may erupt tomorrow if workers do return to their posts, but he called on all workers to resolve the matter peacefully.
