Mining Industry Guide to Workplace Safety 2014 – Released

A Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS) is the primary means of ensuring the safe operation of a mine. This is one of the prominent topics of this year’s edition of the Mining Industry Guide to Workplace Safety. Produced by Pro-Visual Publishing, in a collaborative effort with the Australian Mines & Metal Association and the Minerals Industry Safety & Health Centre, this guide aims to promote site safety within the mining industry. Mining has with it, a range of hazards and associated risks due to the dynamic and varied nature of the tasks and the environment in which they are done, so this guide provides a useful reference for operators and workers on current risk management and procedures.

Other relevant topics include Ventilation and Roads and Other Vehicle Operating Areas. It is necessary for workers to pay attention to roads and other vehicle operating areas because of the potential risks of the fatalities, vehicle collisions and road conditions. The types of vehicle activities conducted on the road or operating area will indicate the sorts of hazards that may be present, so it is important for all involved in the workplace to be aware of road signage, restricted zones, vehicles and pedestrians, to minimise risk of injury and harm.

“I would like to thank all of the sponsors of the Mining Industry Guide to Workplace Safety 2014. Their support has made it possible for the guide to be distributed free of charge”, said John Hutchings, CEO, Pro-Visual Publishing.
