March 19-20 2013 have been declared as the official dates for the 2nd Annual Global Human Asset Expansion in Mining conference, a leading conference targeted towards resolving human resource management issues faced by the global mining community.
Human resource leaders, talent management experts, compensation and benefits decision makers and recruitment consultants are expected to attend the conference. During its inaugural edition earlier this year, the conference saw participation from mining giants like De Beers, Rio Tinto, Kinross Gold Corporation, Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR), Inmet Mining, Great Basin Gold, International Labour Organisation, Anglo American, Barrick Gold Corporation and many others.
With improved market conditions and rising demand for commodities, the mining industry has entered a situation where the demand for skilled professionals is outstripping its supply. The biggest question mining companies face today is how to retain a skilled and trained workforce.
Resource nationalism, rated as the top mining business risk by Ernst and Young, followed by skills shortage, will be discussed in detail on the first day. In addition, the conference will feature topics related to human capital management, workforce planning, talent management, change management and succession planning, women in mining, compensation practices and reward programmes to name a few. A panel discussion will deliberate unions’ role in wage negotiations and other labour interests.
The speaker panel boasts of some of the biggest HR practitioners in the mining industry today. Lisa Zangari, Senior Vice President (Human Resources) at IAMGOLD Corporation will return again next year to share their expertise. They will be joined by Virginia Tyobeka, Executive Head (Human Resouces) at Anglo American Kumba Iron Ore, Paul Proulx, Senior Vice President (Corporate Affairs) and Vice President (Human Resources) at Dundee Precious Metals, Conrad Mtshali, Vice President and Head (Human Resources) at Gold Fields Ltd and many others.
Sponsors include Accenture as the Gala Dinner Sponsor, Page Up People as Gold Sponsor, Dawson and Alexander as Associate Partner, Towers Watson as Talent and Rewards Partner, and Gerard Daniels as Associate Sponsor.
The event is supported by the Mining HR and Recruitment Specialists Association and Women in Mining.
