Kamchatka region to increase gold production by 10% in 2012

Gold production in Russia’s Kamchatka region will increase by 10% YoY to 3.1 metric tons (mt) (99,700 ounces) in 2012, the local authorities said.

In January-September 2011, local gold companies produced 1.857 mt of gold, marking is a 16.3% increase YoY.

Platinum production over the period was 611 kg, up 5.9% YoY, which is also the final result for the year, as placer mining in the region is over this season.

Silver production increased from 402 kg in January-September 2011 to 1.17 metric tons over the same period this year. The expected yearly result is 1.5 mt.

According to local officials, gold production at the Asacha mine is being hampered by an error in the processing factory design: the selected technology does not suit the quality of ore.

However, the company is making technological adjustments and is planning to reach production of 1.5 mt of gold next year.

In 9M 2012, the site produced 19.773 mt of gold (615 kg).
