LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, SEPTEMBER 27, 2016 – Hexagon Mining today marked the 25,000th installation of its SAFEmine Collision Avoidance System (CAS) by honoring Barrick Gold for its commitment to safety. In a presentation held during MINExpo in Las Vegas, Hexagon Mining President, Hélio Samora, congratulated Barrick.
“It’s fitting that a progressive company such as Barrick is part of this landmark,” said Samora. “The company’s commitment to digital solutions is well known, and nowhere is that commitment more important than protecting lives and equipment.”
Craig Ross, Barrick Gold Corporation, Vice President of Safety and Health, accepted the award.
“We at Barrick have worked very hard to find a collision avoidance system that would be meet our internal criteria to eliminate collisions associated with limited visibility from large mining equipment,” said Ross.
“A small-scale trial of the SAFEmine CAS in 2014 met these requirements. We are now engaged in a large-mine, full-scale pilot, and we are anticipating that the SAFEmine CAS will continue to meet our expectations.
“I believe this is a very exciting time where both Barrick and Hexagon are working as partners to ensure everyone goes home safe and healthy every day.”
CAS is now used in more than 25,000 vehicles in over 55 countries. It provides vehicle operators with 360-degree proximity detection at any speed and in all directions via an unobtrusive cabin-display unit.
At MINExpo, Hexagon Mining is also previewing the latest advances to FatigueMonitor, a fatigue-detection, alerting, and reporting solution. When integrated with FatigueMonitor, CAS addresses two major threats to safety in a mine – blind spots and fatigue.
MINExpo continues until Sept. 28. Hélio Samora and his team are on hand to welcome attendees to Hexagon Mining’s Booth 4133.
