South African labour union to strike at ArcelorMittal over job cuts
Africa's biggest steel producer was rocked by a two-week wage strike in May 2022.
South Africa’s Gold One International Ltd. yesterday suspended 14,000 workers on strike at the company’s Cooke 4 shaft in Ezulwini on the West Rand.
Company spokesman Grant Stuart said the suspension notice implies that workers who are not staying in hostels are now locked out and Gold One’s mining operations remain shut down.
Disciplinary hearings for all workers who have been on strike since Monday will be held today. Stuart acknowledged that one potential result of the hearings will be dismissals.
