Barrick touts ‘world-class’ potential of Fourmile project with significant resource boost
For the next stage of the Fourmile project, Barrick plans to start a three-year prefeasibility study in 2025.
Gold Fields spokesman Sven Lunsche said yesterday that the disarming of striking workers at the company’s KDC West mine is a solid step toward avoiding the need to evict workers from their hostels.
“We are considering the alternatives, if the strikers are doing that (handing in weapons),” Lunsche said. The company told workers two days ago that they could return to their hostels if they surrendered their weapons.
“Our main rationale was that it was lawless in the hostels. If they hand in their weapons, then there is far less need (to seek court action),” Lunsche said.
Earlier yesterday, the workers said they plan to continue striking until their demands are met.
