Following on the announcement that the Asanko Gold Mine in Ghana is preparing for hot commissioning in December 2015, engineering firm DRA Global would like to thank Asanko Gold Inc. for the opportunity to be involved in this significant mining project in West Africa.
DRA was awarded the EPCM contract for the project, and has been working on the construction of the entire gold plant since August 2014. With construction due for completion by DRA a month ahead of schedule and on budget, Asanko expects to pour first gold in January 2016.
“We also thank our client, Asanko Gold Inc., for acknowledging DRA’s contribution to the project’s excellent safety record by working 3.8 million man hours with no lost time injury,” says DRA Director for Africa, Johann de Bruin. “DRA’s high safety standards have become a hallmark of our service to our clients,” he says.
Recent projects where DRA has achieved exceptional safety results on its EPCM contracts include the Booysendal Platinum Mine in South Africa, Kibali Gold Mine in the DRC and the mega-sized Mogalakwena Platinum Mine in South Africa. For these 3 projects, DRA worked a total of 30 million man hours without any lost time injury (LTI).
At the New Liberty Gold Mine in Liberia, DRA participated in a safety drive of a different kind, where it helped its client Aureus Mining to successfully protect all workers from the risk of Ebola infection during the height of the 2014/2015 Ebola epidemic in West Africa.
