Crosh appoints Marianne Matichuk as Chief Administrative Officer

The Centre  for Research  in Occupational  Safety  and Health  (CROSH)  at  Laurentian  University  today  announced  the  appointment  of  Marianne Matichuk as the Centre’s inaugural Chief Administrative Officer.

As CAO, Ms. Matichuk will be responsible for expanding capacity at CROSH and steering the Centre’s efforts to achieve key strategic priorities, including the launch of the planned mobile research  laboratory,  M-CROSH.   The position  is funded in part by a grant from the Ontario Ministry of Labour.

“Over the past five years, CROSH has amalgamated research expertise from various

disciplines, and forged alliances with industry and labour, while raising $3M to build state-of-the- art research lab facilities, including the Mobile Research Lab and Workplace Simulator,” said

Leo Gerard, Chair of the CROSH Advisory Board and International President, USW.  “CROSH

is leading important work which includes placing future experts in OHS in the workplace.”

Prior to serving as the Mayor of Greater Sudbury (2010-2014) Ms. Matichuk worked as an occupational health and safety professional with Vale and with the City of Greater Sudbury.

“Marianne was the ideal candidate, as she is a passionate advocate for health and safety in the workplace and has over 30 years of OHS experience,” said CROSH Director Dr. Sandra Dorman.

“My roots in this community run deep, and I am thrilled to be working with Dr. Dorman and the CROSH team to transfer the intellectual capacity we have generated in occupational safety and health to our northern workplaces and communities,” said Matichuk.  “The research that is led by CROSH is making a vital difference in the lives of workers and their families and I am proud to play a part in it.”
