Contractor dies in accident at Trevali’s Perkoa Mine

An accident claimed the life of a Trevali Mining contractor at the company’s Perkoa Mine in Burkina Faso, Trevali announced in a news release today.

The company’s contractor, Byrnecut Burkina Faso, was working on underground preparation and development activities at the time of the incident. Upon knowledge of the accident all underground operations were suspended and authorities were notified.

“We are all truly saddened by this tragic accident and extend our sincere condolences to the miner’s family, friends and colleagues,” stated Dr. Mark Cruise, Trevali’s President and CEO.

“Safety has always been a top priority for the company and we will ensure this accident is fully investigated and any key learnings shared with all of the Trevali operations.”

Perkoa Mine is a 2,000-tonne-per-day milling operation located 120 kilometres west of the capital city of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The Perkoa Mine has been in commercial operation since 2013 and produces zinc concentrate.
