Canarail awarded major contract in northern Quebec and Labrador

Quebec’s rail expert working with Labrador Iron Mines

Montreal, September 6, 2012 – The President of CANARAIL is pleased to announce the recent signature of a contract with the mining company Labrador Iron Mines (LIM). As part of this technical mandate, CANARAIL will put its expertise to work at improving and optimizing LIM’s current onsite transport solutions. This contract for upgrading LIM’s current railways reinforces the strong and trusting relationship between the companies for years to come. CANARAIL will therefore be playing a major role in this mining project near Schefferville in Northern Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Mining cargo rail transport is one of CANARAIL’s strategic orientations; rail transport is the most cost-effective way to move large quantities of minerals and ore to larger deep water sea ports. Amid increasing international competition and a sensitive economic context, companies are constantly seeking ways to reduce operating costs and optimize their current assets.

“Global demand for natural resources allows CANARAIL to pursue an accelerated pace for growth. More and more mining companies around the world are using our services to develop railway services; they know that our solutions can bring a direct benefit their profitability,” said Mr. Valero.

CANARAIL possesses a unique expertise in rail transport; for over 20 years the company’s experts, engineers and specialized consultants have participated in projects in extreme locations in some of the planet’s most isolated areas. Whether the project is in the Saudi Arabian desert, Mongolia’s icy steppes, or Baffin Island’s arctic tundra, CANARAIL’s teams have succeeded where others have failed.

“From the very start, we have been convinced that this project is a perfect fit for CANARAIL. No matter what conditions we work in, our role is to provide our customers with solutions that meet their needs and allow them to reach their business objectives quickly and successfully,” added Mr. Valero.
