Mining support company Abitibi Geophysics has a new home

In a very familiar turn of events here in Northern Ontario lately – old forestry sector buildings are turning to the mining sector once again.  In fact, the very building which housed some of the Buchanan Group of Companies (forestry) years ago –  became the official new home of Abitibi Geophysics. (mining/mine support)

Today in Thunder Bay, almost a hundred business, government and industry came together to celebrate the opening of one of Canada’s most progressive mining support companies, Abitibi Geophysics.  The invitation-only fully catered event carried on for more than 3 hours with equipment demonstrations, networking, music from the Danny Johnston trio – and of course – best wishes from local, regional and national governments.

Pierre Bérubé, President and CEO of Abitibi was very pleased with the level of interest and excitement within the crowd, “We are very proud of our track record of success throughout our company’s history, and coming to Thunder Bay brings us into the most exciting and promising mining areas in all of Canada, to be sure.”  At one point, Bérubé also commented that Thunder Bay was one of the nicest cities inOntario with respect to organizing and arranging start-up details for business.

Local media was on hand as well to document the event – Minister of Northern Development and Mines, Michael Gravelle was also in attendance.  Mayor Keith Hobbs, CEDC representative Richard Pohler as well as Liberal MP Bill Mauro – all attended this Grand Opening Celebration.

Abitibi Geophysics will employ up to 14 people by year end 2013 – and an additional 20 people by year end 2014.
