BATEMAN SETTLERS™ for Husab
As part of the global Tenova Mining & Minerals Group, Tenova Bateman Technologies, an industry specialist in mineral processing applications for the minerals, chemical and industrial markets, has been awarded a contract to supply 24 BATEMAN SETTLERS™ to Swakop Uranium’s Husab uranium project in Namibia. The scope of the contract covers engineering, manufacture, delivery to site and assistance with installation and commissioning.
The order, due for completion in March 2015, was placed in March 2014 by the Husab Project Joint Venture (HPJV), the EPCM contractor for the project. The BATEMAN SETTLERS™ are to be manufactured in neighbouring South Africa.
Mark Firestein, General Manager of Tenova Bateman Technologies, said: “This major contract, which will see us providing technology that combines advanced design and proven technology, is an important addition to our impressive track record of successful projects execution using the BATEMAN SETTLER™. We are proud to be associated with the most important uranium discovery in recent years through the award of this contract.”
BATEMAN SETTLERSTM have found wide acceptance worldwide in uranium process applications, such as for AngloGold Ashanti’s SUP SX Replacement Project, Honeymoon Uranium Mine and the Dominion Reef Uranium Mine.
The BATEMAN SETTLER™, with its advanced design and enhanced efficiency, provides many advantages compared to conventional settlers. Besides substantial operational benefits, the mixer settler enables side-by side orientation of pump mixers, reducing capital costs and improving access for operators and maintenance. A coalescence enhancement channel and other design aspects provide higher process efficiencies and reduced organic loss.
Swakop Uranium is a wholly-owned Namibian subsidiary of Taurus Minerals Limited, an entity owned by China General Nuclear Power Company (CGNPC) and the China-Africa Development Fund. It is developing and constructing the Husab mine, with the potential to produce 15 million pounds of uranium oxide (U3O8) per annum. This is more than the total current uranium production of Namibia, and elevates Namibia to the third ranking on the world ladder of uranium producers. The Husab project is also set to become the second largest uranium mine in the world and Ore from the open pit mine will be fed to a conventional agitated acid leach process plant, based on a proven flow sheet.
Tenova Bateman Technologies offers differentiated, project-specific process technologies based on decades of research, equipment design and project execution. Advanced solutions include solvent extraction for hydrometallurgical and bio processing, electrowinning, membrane circuits, in-house R&D facilities, expertise in mineral beneficiation and phosphate processing from beneficiation to purified phosphoric acid and salts.
Tenova Mining & Minerals is a one destination total integrated solutions provider to the global mining, bulk materials handling and minerals beneficiation and processing sectors, offering innovative technological solutions and full process and commodity knowledge across the mining industry value chain.
