Applications now open for JKTech’s 2015-16 Mining Leaders’ Program

With the inaugural cohort of JKTech’s revolutionary Mining Leaders’ Program graduating in March, applications have now formally opened for the 2015-16 course.

The seven month, four module program, commencing on 21 September and concluding on 18 March 2016, is specifically designed to enable discipline managers to make the transition from a senior technical specialist to a general manager, either at site or corporate level.

Brett Cunningham, General Manager of JKTech’s Technology and Knowledge Transfer team said, “This is a globally relevant program and we encourage people from mine sites around the world to give consideration to their own, or their employees’, career development path.”

“While there is currently some financial uncertainty in the resources industry, we believe now is the time to invest in developing leadership skillsets so individuals and companies are well prepared for the upswing.”

Providing online course work, intensive face to face learning as well as one on one coaching that addresses both leadership and technical issues, the Mining Leaders’ Program has been designed around three central themes: the transition to high performing mining leader; the business of mining and optimising operational performance; and creating new value through transformation and innovation in global mining.

“Our aim is to help equip future leaders with the ability to demonstrate their full potential and make the successful transition to senior management roles. We are unlocking the hidden value in the mining industry and contributing to a more sustainable future,” said Brett.

Practical application is the key to the success of the Mining Leaders’ Program. Participants are asked to identify a strategic opportunity within their company and develop a plan for realising it on completion of the course.

“Collaboration with people from other companies is also imperative. Sharing knowledge and experience across a range of companies and roles within the industry provides participants with a well-rounded experience and exposure to issues they may not have otherwise experienced,” said Brett.

Program content draws on some of the best research in the world undertaken by The University of Queensland and the Sustainable Minerals Institute, and participants have access to  leading industry experts such as Rosemary Howard, Professor David Brereton, Professor Ben Adair and Charlie Sartain.
