Volvo hybrid truck breaks speed record

Swedish company Volvo has built a one-off diesel, hybrid truck that has recently set two world speed records at the Wendover Airfield in Utah, America.

Nicknamed ‘Mean Green’, the vehicle broke the records for the standing kilometre and the flying kilometer, said the company.

The truck hit a top speed of 237 kph in the flying kilometer (where drivers get to drive a small distance to gain speed before beginning the run); and 153 kph in the standing kilometer (which is done from a stop).
