Ivanhoe’s Kipushi zinc mine in the DRC officially reopens
The restart marked exactly a century since the mine first went into production.
Vale said that the production of copper concentrate at its Salobo mine in the state of Para, Brazil, is suspended due to a fire affecting a conveyor belt.
The company said it expected to resume production at the mine by the end of October.
Other activities, such as mining and maintenance, were continuing normally, Vale said.
Vale said in an email to MINING.COM that there were no injuries or casualties, only material damage.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
In 2020, Salobo produced 172,700 tonnes of copper, nearly half the Rio de Janeiro-based companies annual output.
