Hedge funds slash bullish wagers on gold over Trump election win
The precious metal has fallen about 8% from a record high on Oct. 31, with losses accelerating after Trump’s election victory last week.
Barrick Gold’s Pascua Lama was suspended on Thursday as the company struggles to deal with its debt of almost $15 billion. If it goes into production, the mine, which straddles the Chilean-Argentinian border, is expected to produce about 800,000 to 850,000 ounces of gold a year in the first full five years of its 25 year life.
But the Pascua Lama project has a long and troubled history that dates back to the mid-1990s. Here’s the full story.

The story is common, is the water management an oversight or project error? Refinancing sounds reasonable after so very much on the ground work being completed. The rest is mostly build and produce which is less government oriented and more internally controllable.
