Mining’s old guard needs strong medicine
A new report details subpar investor returns in the mining industry over the last decade, particularly big cap diversified companies which have not adapted to new realities.
NASA put together time-lapse satellite images of development around the Millenium Mine and the Athabasca River.
The images start in mid ’80s up to the present. As the oil price rises, the mine grows.
“The first mine (from 1967, now part of the Millennium Mine) is visible near the Athabasca River in the 1984 image,” writes NASA.
“The only new development visible between 1984 and 2000 is the Mildred Lake Mine (west of the river), which began production in 1996.”
