Sirius Minerals planning huge potash mine in Yorkshire, UK

A giant mine on the coast of Yorkshire “will unearth billions” of pounds of potash, according to a report in The Scarborough Evening News:

The newspaper said plans were unveiled last month when mineral rights between Scarborough and Whitby were sold by York Potash to Sirius Minerals in a move aimed at creating the UK’s first potash mine in 40 years.

Sirius Minerals is currently planning test drilling and seismic surveys to get a better understanding of the land, and eventually lead to a location for the mine on the 600sq km between Scarborough and Whitby for which they currently have the mining rights.

The mine plan could be submitted within 18 months, CEO Chris Fraser told a meeting of Scarborough’s business leaders during a weekend visit, according to the news report.
