Siemens to supply BMA over a dozen of locomotives

The BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) awarded Siemens a contract to supply 13 locomotives.

The company will provide 13 narrow gauge 25kV heavy haul electric trains.

These latest AC traction trains “are some of the highest powered narrow gauge electric locomotives in the world, and will be capable of hauling approximately 15 million tonnes of coal from pit to port,” Siemens said.

Paul Bennett, Siemens Rail Systems vice president, said this contract with BMA expands the company’s Queensland coal network to 163, and will allow the miner to move coal from its Caval Ridge and Daunia mine to the Hay Point Coal Terminal in the Bowen Basin.
