SGS Minerals Services Geochemical Laboratory in Toronto extends scope of accredited tests assessed (including MMI) to the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025.

SGS is pleased to announce that our ISO/IEC 17025 accredited geochemical laboratory inToronto,Canadahas once again completed on-site evaluation of the Quality Management System. This review also includes our proprietary MMI™ (Mobile Metal Ion) methodology and it will be added to our existing scope of registered tests. This assessment measured conformance to the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025 standard for the General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories.

Internationally, theTorontofacility has the largest scope of Minerals Services geochemical tests registered to the ISO-IEC 17025 standard and is one of the most comprehensive geochemistry laboratories in the world, offering an extensive range of speciality and routine geochemical testing services.

Twenty two test methods were evaluated, covering 75+ elements including fire assay with Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) and Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS); gravimetric analysis for gold; silver by aqua regia digestion and strong acid digestion; multi-elemental and rare earth packages by various digest techniques (aqua regia, strong acid, peroxide fusion) and instrumentation techniques involving Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) and sulphur-carbon analysis.

The evaluation procedure was an overview of the quality system including the management and technical requirements covering documentation control, non-conformance requirements, proficiency testing, training competency, equipment monitoring, test method validation, traceability of measurements, quality of data and sample management.

This evaluation documents SGS’ geochemical analysis expertise and adds to the existing exploration, metallurgical, mineralogy and water treatment services that SGS offers to its clients globally.
