Copper price down on pressure from rebounding dollar

A Brazilian court has authorized Vale to resume operations at the Brucutu mine, its largest in the state of Minas Gerais.

The Canadian miner's second-largest investor, Waterton Global Resource Management, has filed a lawsuit against the base metals producer in a bid to constrain its ability to solicit proxies.

Vale's situation could force other steelmakers to halt production if nothing is done to normalize supplies.

The Chapada copper-gold mine, in the northwest Brazilian state of Goiás, began production in 2007.

Deal creates the world’s largest gold producer by market value, output and reserves.

Investment will go towards more drilling, orebody studies, infrastructure improvements and permitting activities.

Members of the community of Tacrara were demanding compensation for the use of a road that, according to them, Hudbay’s trucks were not supposed to be using.
