Copper, nickel prices spike as Europe scrambles for metal
Copper price hits 19-week high and nickel scales $25,000 for the first time since 2011 as European traders are forced to look as far afield as Malaysia for deliverable metal.
Strong grades at Centinela mine pushed the company’s copper production up 4.6% to 194,000 tonnes in the three months to March, compared with the previous quarter.
The company attributed weak Q1 results to heavy rains, unplanned outages, regulatory delays linked to last year’s dam failure, and ongoing disruptions caused by the coronavirus.
