Codelco CEO vows to pursue community buy-in over lithium expansion
Chile’s state-run miner has made progress in negotiating with local communities over lithium mining and will keep working to win their support, Chief Executive Ruben Alvarado said.
The world's largest copper producer said the blaze occurred Sunday in the aging mine's concentrator plant, where work is underway to extend the productive life of the mine by decades.
Production is forecast to exceed usage by 467,000 metric tons in 2024, a significant upward revision from the expected 297,000 metric ton surplus from April.
