Scotiabank compliance failed to stop gold spoofing, US says

Taseko Mines (TSX:TKO), the company behind a large copper-gold project in north-central British Columbia, was back in court last week to appeal a 2016 decision that went against it.

Operations at the silver-gold mine have been suspended until further notice.

Energy minister George Stathakis said the move aims to ensure the company respects its contractual obligations.

It's been more than a decade since there's been an operating mine in the mineral rich Kitikmeot region.

The deal comes as Sumitomo, Japan’s top gold miner, looks to boost its output through acquisitions and exploration.

Timeline-wise, the world's largest miner expects to achieve that goal in about 50 years.

Acquisition will help the Canadian company expand its diamond, gold and silver asset base.
