But they also come with a catch - pitching ideas, striking deals and securing funding is the name of the game.

The survey found that exploration expenditures across BC totaled $246 million in 2017, up $41 million (20%), from the year before.

Global spending on the search for nonferrous metals rose to an estimated US$8.4 billion in 2017, compared with US$7.3 billion in 2016.
