The world’s largest miner has agreed to sell its 80% stake in BMC to Stanmore Resources, as part of its retreat from fossil fuels.

The gold giant reported an 18% drop in third-quarter profit from the prior three-month period, weighed down by weaker prices for the precious metal.

The miners have been in a bidding war for the Canadian company, which owns Eagle’s Nest nickel and copper deposit in Ontario.
