Public gold audit petition in the US posed to be defeated

A petition demanding a public audit of the US gold reserve is likely to come up short of the 25,000 signatures goal by Feb. 8.
By Tuesday morning it had accumulated a bit over 18,000 signatures.
The petition, which seems to be averaging roughly 825 signatories a day, would need another eight days to reach the target.
With only three days left, the gold audit — posted on the White House petitions website on Jan. 9— will gather a bit over 20,000 if the average trend holds.
At least the organizers can be glad they got up the petition when they did. The White House has raised the bar from 25,000 to 100,000. The new limit only applies to petitions going forward. The gold audit can still pass if it gets 25,000 by Friday.
