CBC News is reporting that last fall’s cyberattack on government agencies looking for confidential information on PotashCorp was much larger than previously disclosed and the perpetrators seemed to be after insider information.
Seven Canadian law firms were attacked, along with various government agencies. Analysts estimate that the well-coordinated attack must have involved 100 people or more.
Although the attacks were traced back to China, that does not mean the attacks were carried out by that country. The Chinese government denies any involvement.
In the fall the Canadian Government’s finance department and Treasury Board networks were attacked. An email, pretending to come from an aboriginal group, was opened by department officials. A link in the email installed malware on the worker’s computers, which facilitated the attacks.

And I spend $40.00 a year to protect my laptop. There is no protection from cybercriminals & this proves it.

The Chinese government denies any involvement. – Ya right – and the sun is going to rise in the west tomorrow! Hopefully the attack was discovered in time, so that CSIS could pump back a lot of dis-information
