The Mongolian government’s Monday tweet, claiming that the the shipments were cleared for international delivery, turned out to be on target:
A few words from the president:
Dear colleagues,
This morning, at just before 11am, Oyu Tolgoi began shipping Mongolian copper concentrate to our international customers.
This is an incredibly proud moment for everyone at Oyu Tolgoi and the culmination of many years of hard work by thousands of people.
Today, as I watched our concentrate leaving the gates, it was one of those moments I knew I would remember for the rest of my life.
I was grateful to share this moment with so many members of our team at site, today, and I hope to see many UB based colleagues at the Naadam party later today. But I want to take this moment to personally thank each and every member of the Oyu Tolgoi team for all that’s been done to bring us to this point.
We are a now an operating copper business. More than ever, we can look to the future, and recommit, as a company and as individuals, to putting safety ahead of everything else that we do.
I am incredibly proud of the whole team.
Have a safe and happy Naadam.
