On Thursday, the vice-chancellor of Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique announced three new courses on mining and oil exploration, and several new Master's programs, reports Club of Mozambique.
Vice-chancellor Orlando Quilambo said that Eduardo Mondlane University would this year teach courses in Cartography and Geological Surveying, Applied Geology, and Oil Engineering. “We signed a deal with an oil exploration company for joint training of around 200 students in this area by 2015,” Quilambo explained.

UK trianing provider Mentor Training has launched two new courses: Mobile Crushing and Screening and Light Vehicle Training, reports Coal International.
There will an introduction into Jaw, Cone, Gyratory and Impactor Crushers [in the Mobile Crushing and Screening course], including the use of the manufacturer’s manual and will cover pre-use checks, start-up, manoeuvring and safety hazards, including machine blockages. Machine shutdown and transportation and environmental issues will also be included within the course. [The Light Vehicle training course] offers a comprehensive look at this type of vehicle and the hazards involved with its operation. The course incorporates health and safety legislation, pre-use inspection and provides a detailed look at the machine’s control and their use in a working environment.
South Africa's Mukundi Mining Resources has begun developing mining training courses to address the skills shortage South Africa is facing in the industry, Mining Weekly reports.
The company has identified specific training requirements in the mining sector and will include preparatory induction assessments, as well as the required medical examinations, in its proposed course curriculum, says Mukundi CEO Octavia Matshidiso Matloa.
