One of my best friends recently discovered, to his shock and dismay, that five one-ounce gold coins had been stolen from his home. I feel especially bad because I had encouraged him to buy some physical metal, giving him some tips and pointing him to the better dealers.

In October 2010 the Chinese government shut down 1,611 illegal coal mines in an effort to improve an industry whose working conditions have been described as harsh, dangerous, and often fatal. Last year in China more than 2,600 people died in mining-related accidents, including explosions, floodings and cave-ins, although fatalities have decreased in recent years due to increased safety inspections and the government shuttering illegal mines.
“Closing the gap” in the “disadvantage” Aboriginal people experience in employment and education in western NSW is the focus of a new Aboriginal Education and Training Unit, a TAFE Institute director said. The new team of 15 Aboriginal staff located in Dubbo, Bathurst, Orange, Broken Hill and in the north west of the state, has been formed in response to feedback from Aboriginal communities that TAFE could be doing more to meet the needs of Aboriginal people and communities.
