Outotec has signed a contract with Chilean Codelco, the leading copper producer in the world, for the design and delivery of concentrator technology to Codelco’s new Mina Ministro Hales mine in northern Chile. The contract value is approximately EUR 24 million, half of which was booked in Outotec’s second quarter and the rest in the third quarter order intake.
Outotec’s scope of delivery covers the world’s largest TankCell® 300 flotation cells, concentrate thickeners and a turn-key filtration plant including basic and detail engineering, supply of proprietary and process equipment as well as installation, start up services and training. The new facility will have an annual capacity of up to 550,000 tonnes of concentrate, and it is scheduled to be commissioned in early 2013.
This new contract complements the earlier contracts Outotec has made with Codelco in 2010 and 2011 for the Mina Ministro Hales mine, valued at approximately EUR 134 million and including the delivery of a copper concentrate roasting plant, gas cleaning system, sulfuric acid plant and effluent treatment plant.
“This additional contract demonstrates our ability to offer and implement large process solutions for our customers. Our strong technology portfolio covers the entire value chain from ore to refined metals. With a mission ‘Sustainable use of Earth’s natural resources’ we help our customers to increase recovery of valuable minerals, to reduce energy and water consumption as well as the environmental impact of their operations”, says Pertti Korhonen, President and CEO of Outotec.
