Orvana submits permit for Michigan copper mine

Orvana Minerals Corp. TSX:ORV has applied for a permit to begin mining its Copperwood project in Michigan.

The environmental permit is one of 13 permits needed for the mine.

Orvana says that Copperwood is a stratiform copper deposit with 798 million pounds of contained copper and 3.5 million ounces of silver. It plans to mine the deposit with underground room-and-pillar methods and process the ore by conventional flotation technology.

The mine is about 30 kilometres from the inactive White Pine Mine where over 1.7 million tonnes of copper and over 4.5 million ounces of silver were produced between 1953 and 1996, Orvana says on its website.

It plans to start producing from Copperwood in 2013.
