Taiwanese mobile devices manufacturer HTC Corporation (TWSE: 2498) has joined the gold rush fever sparked by Apple’s latest iPhone by launching Tuesday a special edition of its HTC One Android phone.
The device is so limited that only five people will be able to say they own one of these 18-carat gold mobile.
The luxury handset, the most expensive phone ever made by the Taiwanese firm, was commissioned for the British MOBO Awards, to take place October 19 in Glasgow, reports WebProNews.
The body of the HTC One, which costs about US$ 4,430, is made of a single piece of metal, with the front and back plated in gold.
The Gold HTC One, created in collaboration with Goldgenie, which specializes in luxury versions of popular devices, has a 4.7-inch display, can store 32GB worth of data and comes with a 4-megapixel camera.
If this smartphone seems appealing, but too pricey, you can always get the 24-carat embellishment version that Goldgenie sells for $2,500.

Given the manufacturing process where these metal bodies are CNC machined from a single billet of aluminium, one has to wonder when they will simply machine one from solid gold. Easy enough to do. Would be somewhat heavier. But it would provide the ultimate bragging rights!

“plated in gold” No matter, all good news for the mining industry, I want to see a few ships and cars built like this.
