Denver-based Newmont Mining Corp. announced Monday that it was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the fifth consecutive year. The sustainability index includes some 300 global companies identified as leaders in the areas of sustainability and economic, environmental, safety and social performance.
Newmont as been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index every year since 2006. In 2007, it became the first gold company included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index.
DJSI World tracks the performance of 2,500 leading companies, worldwide, independently evaluating their long-term economic, environmental and social performance. The top 10 percent of performers are selected from among 58 different industry groups.
DJSI evaluates companies based on a variety of criteria, including transparency, corporate governance, risk and crisis management, environmental management and performance, stakeholder engagement, community development, energy management and climate change, biodiversity, human resources, and safety.
