Mining in Sichuan exacerbates flooding

Poor geological conditions in Sichuan region, which frequently suffers landslides and flooding due to the precipitous slopes and poor ground stability, are now facing worse conditions due to mining.
NTD Television reports that open pit mining in the area is heavily polluting the water and destabilizing the hillsides.
The 2008 Sichuan earthquake was the 20th deadliest earthquake of all time.
About 69,000 people died.
