PotashCorp was ranked Canada’s most profitable miner in 2012, according to the annual list compiled by the Globe and Mail and released on Thursday.
The list ranks “. . . the 1,000 largest publicly traded Canadian corporations, measured by assets. They are ranked according to their after-tax profits in their most recent fiscal year, excluding extraordinary gains or losses.”
PotashCorp was number 10 with profits of $2.079 billion.
Gold miners came in next with First Quantum Minerals at number 15 and GoldCorp Inc. at number 16.
First Quantum had the biggest leap up the charts. It was at spot 50 in 2011.
Barrick Gold had the most dizzying drop, ranking number four in 2011 and dropping to 995 in this year’s list.
The overall top of the list was the Royal Bank with $7.442 billion in profits.
